A day with Adrian Chiles

Dave and Andy

Both my brother and I decided it was a good idea to splash out £555 to spend a day with Adrian Chiles, especially as the money was going to such a worthy cause (my missus was not convinced at all!).

We arrived in London early on Sunday afternoon and after dropping off our bags at the hotel, we made our way to a local pub to watch the Liverpool v Blackburn game.

Five pints later we arrived at BBC Television Centre and were picked up in reception by AC, who then took us to the area where they edit the show. There are TV monitors everywhere and more gadgets than you could ever imagine. We spent time watching AC write the words for some of the clips you see on the show, we watched the editing and also were given a run through of how they pulled together the “Mystery of the Highbury screamer” (for those of you who have seen the show you will know what I am talking about).

After this we made our way over to the Five Live studio for AC’s 606 phone in show. We both spent time next to AC in the actual studio, and unfortunately we had to endure listening to a Chester fan talking about the new England Manager. Clearly AC is fed up with the delay over the appointment of the England Manager and the constant debate over who it may be. AC’s knowledge of football is very good and he can hold his own on most subjects.

Following this we made our way back to where they edit the MOTD2 show and we were introduced to David Moyes and Gavin Peacock. There was some discussion around the Robbie Fowler goal, was Cisse inactive or active. I had to get my view across as I felt he was inactive, however the general consensus was he was active and the goal should therefore have not been allowed.

Before MOTD2 was filmed we spent about 20 minutes talking to David Moyes. He said that he was 5/6 players short of a really good team and in the transfer market they can’t compete with likes of Chelsea. We asked about Craig Bellamy, he said he had him around to his house and also met him in Cardiff, but he decided he was not right for Everton. We mentioned Mark Jones, he said he was aware of him, although he believes the step up from the lower leagues to the Premiership is greater than it has ever been. Perhaps a championship side would be the type of club to think about gambling on a player like Jonah.

After this we watched the show being recorded from the Director’s gantry, it was pre-recorded on this occasion whereas it normally goes out live on air.

The whole day was a great experience AC and all the staff at the BBC made us feel very welcome. AC was a top bloke, an avid WBA fan and someone who made you feel at ease and made very effort to help us have a great day.
